PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The Thakurs of this thikana, now spelt Khairabad, are descendants of Maharana Udai Singhji II of Mewar (founder of Udaipur) through his third son Baba Veeramdeo, the younger brother of Rana Sagat Singhji (founder of the Shaktawat-Sisodia clan). This thikana is a Baba Ranawat thikana (that is, a thikana from which male children were adopted to the ruling house of Mewar, in the absence of a male heir). The descendants of Maharana Udai Singhji II were the first branch of Sisodias to carry the patronym of Ranawat. Maharaj Shri VEERAM DEOJI, 1st Baba Saheb of Gosunda, born 1551, he was placed incharge of the security of the household of his elder brother, Maharana Pratap Singhji I, during Mewar’s wars with the Mughals, along with 500-1000 soldiers he was able to evade various searches by Emperor Akbar, Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana and Jagannath Kachchwaha (son of Raja Bharmal of Amber) done to apprehend the Maharana or members of his household, in 15 years, neither he nor any of his wards were ever apprehended, as a result, his descendants, the Veeramdevot Ranawats, have since that time, unfettered access to the royal household, being incharge of their security and were given the kiledari of Kumbalgarh, the prime residence of the Maharana during these years, this privilege continued till the time of Maharana Bhupal Singhji in the 1950s; he was granted the thikana of Gosunda, consisting of 36 villages with Rs 65,000 in revenue; married 1stly, Tanwarji Poorna Kanwar, daughter of Bhairon Singh of Pahuna, married 2ndly, Solankiji Prayagde Kanwar, daughter of Trilok Singh Solanki, married 3rdly, Jadonji Sahib Kanwar, daughter of Prithviraj Jadon, married 4thly, Shyam Kanwar, daughter of Chatrasal, and had issue. He died 1621.

Maharaj Shri SHAKTI SINGHJI, 6th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 1755/17xx, born 11th June 1695, his coronation ceremony was held on 30th September 1755, he was granted the estate of Mandapiya and succeeded there, while his elder brother succeeded to Kherabad. He died 1789.
Maharaj Shri MOKHAM SINGHJI, 7th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 17xx/1778, initially he was appointed as Kiledari (Governor of fortress) of Jahazpur, but later he was asked to leave Mewar, and made his home in Jaipur at the invitation of the Maharaja; he proved himself an accomplished warrior and was was offered the jagir of Toda Bhim, which he declined, upon hearing of this, the Maharana recalled him to Mewar and he was given his paternal jagir, while his younger brother was compensated with the estate of Mandapiya; married 1stly, Rani Fateh Kanwar, daughter of Rathore Thakur Shiv Singhji, married 2ndly, Rani Chandan Kanwar, daughter of Kachwaha Thakur Pahad Singhji, married 3rdly, Rani Sua Kanwar, daughter of Chauhan Thakur Ummed Singhji, married 4thly, Rani Raj Kanwar, daughter of Chauhan Thakur Akheraj, and had issue, as well as further morgantic issue by Khawas Baje Kanwar, and others. He died in December 1778.

Maharaj Shri SALIM SINGHJI, 8th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 1778/1792, born about 1716, his coronation ceremony was held on 9th December 1778, he was present at Nahar Magra with his brother, Baba Bakhat Singh of Borada, at the meeting between Maharana Bhim Singh and Mahadji Sindhia; he took part in the battles for Potla, Gangrar and Atun; married 1stly, Rani Badan Kanwar, daughter of Rathore Thakur Keerat Singhji, married 2ndly, Rani Gulab Kanwar daughter of Rathore Thakur Budh Singhji, married 3rdly, Rani Ummed Kanwar, daughter of Hada Thakur Madho Singhji, and had issue. He died 10th October 1792.

He died about 1815.

Maharaj Shri JODH SINGHJI, 12th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 1844/1883, born about 1816, his coronation ceremony was held on 21st February 1844, he helped Maharana Swaroop Singhji of Udaipur in the khalsa (vacation) of Arajiya from Thakur Baba Chandan Singh Purawat, later the Maharana visited Kherabad; the Maharaj and his son, Kunwar Nahar Singh, accompanied Maharana Sajjan Singh to meet the Governor General Lord Mayo at Ajmer in 1870, he was also present at the Governor General Lord Rippon's durbar at Chittaurgarh on 23rd Nov 1881 when Maharana Sajjan Singhji was invested with the G.C.S.I.; married 1stly, Rani Daulat Kanwar, daughter of Jagmalot Rathore Thakur Sangram Singhji, married 2ndly, Rani Jadaav Kanwar, daughter of Bhati Thakur Laxman Singhji, and had issue. He died 1883.

Maharaj Shri BAGH SINGHJI, 14th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 1900/1939, born 31st May 1855, his coronation ceremony was held on 25th October 1900, he served as advisor to both Maharana Sajjan and Maharana Fateh Singhji, he was appointed Superintendent of the Bhupal Nobles School; married Rani Mehtab Kanwar, daughter of Jhala Thakur Jodh Singhji, and had issue, one son, died in infancy as well as adoptive issue. He died in March 1939.

Maharaj Shri RAM SINGHJI, 15th Baba Saheb of Kherabad 1939/1960, born 12th June 1897, he succeeded by adoption, his coronation ceremony was held on 2nd March 1939; he was educated at Dungar College, Bikaner; later he became a Judge of the Sessions Court, Bhilwara; he organized his jagir and made it financially viable; he repaired and built several new tanks and lakes as well as repaired the Charbhuja temple in Khairabad; he opened a school, a hospital and a telegraph office in the jagir and organized the administration; he was close to Maharanas Bhupal and Bhagwat Singhji; married Rani Phool Kunwar, daughter of Bidawat Rathore Thakur Mool Singhji, and had issue. He died 17th March 1960.
