PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The traditional history of the family starts in 1070AD, when two sons of the Kachwaha Raja Man of Kot Kurman, Hawaha and Kachwaha came to Panjab on pilgrimage where they met the then ruling Emperor, Shabab-ud-din Mohammad Guauri, they presented a fine horse to the Emperor, who promised them as much territory as much they could cover on a horseback in a day. At sunrise they started running their horses on either sides of the Satlej and at sunset the former threw down the spear (sela), where the present village of Selkiana is now situated, to show the limit of his domain; while the latter marked the spot he had arrived at by his bracelet (kangan), on the site of the present village of Kanganwal, the area comprised of 1,860 villages. The Emperor also gave them the Fort of Garhshankar. They were given the title of Raja for 13 generations and were to use Rana after that. The Ghorewaha Rajputs became Chiefs of Machiwara, Rahon, Jadla, Balachaur, Rahimabad, Bijwara, Shankarbhanot (Garh Shankar), Phillaur and Bhaddi amongst other places. They defeated the Rathores at Bardar, conquered Nawanshahr from the Mahton Rajputs and Rahon from the Gujjars. The Ghorewaha were given the title of Mian by Emperor Jehangir. During Emperor Akbar’s time, the Ghorewaha Raja was Rana Udho II, The Raja of Machiwara, Rana Udho actively assisted Emperor Akbar in his fight for the Delhi Throne, he captured the rebellious Bairam Khan and subsequently the Raja was allowed to retain the Jagir of Rahon worth 750 villages. The division of the Ghorewaha country took place after Rana Udho’s death when all the Branches were Hindu, including that of the famed Rai Rup Chand. The principal Jagirs were taken, Rahon by the Tikka and Jadla by Bhoj Singh, who returned from Jaipur. The latter was held in Jagir until Sikh interference when Jadla Fort was held by a Sikh Sirdar for sometime, on repulsion, the jagir was reduced to 22 Villages extending from village Garhi to Daulatpur and was held as a pattidari jagirdari with the head of the branch appointed as Alalambardar and Rana of Jadla, who was confirmed on each succession through a Sannad by the District Deputy Commissioner, and was entitled to 15% of the total revenue of his zamindari and could police and punish for minor offences.
