Nyair Locklear - Communications Chair & Undergraduate Assistant

Hi! My name is Nyair Locklear, and I am a Junior studying Health & Societies with a concentration in Health Policy & Law. I am an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and Tuscarora of NC. This year I serve as the Communications Chair for NAP, and am continuing my role as Undergraduate Assistant at our host in the 6B, Greenfield Intercultural Center. I enjoy being able to work with students and be part of such a welcoming and familial environment as we have!

Brooke Parmalee - Graduate cHAIR

Hi everyone! My name is Brooke Parmalee and I am the current Graduate Co-Chair of Natives at Penn. I am a 2L at Penn Law and a proud member of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, based in Kent, Connecticut. I grew up very close to our beautiful Kent reservation. Watching my tribe's legal battle with the State of Connecticut and Federal Government for federal recognition, land, compensation and justice is what inspired me to pursue a legal career. My work this past summer at Holland & Knight LLP exposed me to some of the work Native lawyers encounter. I plan to pursue Native Law upon graduation, and hope to use my degree to help fight for justice for my tribe, and other tribes alike. I graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2018, where I was a member of the Native American Cultural Society. In this role, I worked with Natives both on campus and off to create a welcoming and supportive space for Natives at the University. I hope to continue this by creating a similar space here at Natives at Penn!

"When you begin a great work you can't expect to finish it all at once; therefore do you and your brothers [and sisters] press on, and let nothing discourage you till you have entirely finished what you have begun."
