Rep. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) is the Founder & Chair of the Congressional Renters Caucus which serves as a platform for elected officials to collaborate, propose legislation, and engage in constructive dialogue on critical issues impacting renters. With over 44 million households nationwide living in rentals, it is imperative to prioritize their needs and concerns.
Rep. Gomez is the author of the Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act, which would create a tax credit to convert underutilized commercial properties into new housing. He has also authored the Affordable Homeownership Opportunity Act, which would provide between $25,000 and more than $60,000 of federal down payment assistance for first time and first generation homebuyers, as well as tax incentives to construct new affordable, reasonably sized starter homes for first time homebuyers.
In addition to being a housing advocate, Rep. Gomez is the son of immigrants, a father, and a former labor organizer. He lives in L.A. with his wife Mary and son Hodge.
