Support the Welcoming Immigration Policy drafted by the Natick Immigration Policy Coalition and Natick Is United:
Attend the Select Board meeting on Wednesday, December 11 at 6:00 p.m. and, if you are willing, speak in support of this item when it comes up on the agenda. Your presence and your words can make a significant impact. The meeting will be in person at Edward H. Dlott Meeting Room, Natick Town Hall, 13 East Central Street, or on Zoom. NOTE: The text of the policy can also be found here under item titled: Discussion on Welcoming Communities Policy.
If you are not able to attend the meeting, write to the Select Board and tell them that you support a strong policy protecting Natick’s immigrant communities. You can write to the Select Board at selectboard@natickma.org.
All submitted letters are uplaoded to the select board site and can be read here: select board agenda site.
NOTE: What this policy does not do:
It would NOT prevent anyone, regardless of immigration status, from being arrested, charged, or convicted for any crime.
It would NOT provide any monetary or other benefits to undocumented people. In fact, it would spend no money at all.
It would NOT prevent ICE from enforcing federal immigration law in Natick–it provides no sanctuary.
It would NOT prevent the police from cooperating with ICE or other federal law enforcement authorities. There are no restrictions anywhere in the policy on communication with ICE–the only paragraph pertaining to communication is paragraph 1 which requires the town to share information with ICE under certain circumstances.
