This project aimed to redesign the match rating system in soccer using 2023/24 "Big 5 leagues" data to establish baseline percentiles for ratings to operate in. By using a percentile-based, contextual rating formula, subjectivity of ratings can be removed while also publicizing calculation, subsequently eliminating proprietary, private calculations.

This project combines physical testing data with position-specific performance demands to quantify how well athletes align with different on-field roles. Speed (10-yard, 40-yard), change-of-direction (505), strength (relative peak vertical force), and endurance (total distance) metrics are evaluated against empirically defined positional thresholds, with faster times correctly rewarded and full credit given when benchmarks are met.

Metric-level scores are aggregated into position-level fit percentages, producing clear, interpretable profiles for each athlete. The framework identifies optimal and secondary positions and visualizes results through comparative heatmaps, providing actionable insight for player development, roster construction, and position assignment.
