In this podcast I analyze the rhetoric used in an article called “China tried to keep a lid on the corona-virus. It put everyone at risk.” This article was written by the Editorial Board of The Washington Post. The article talks about how the Chinese leaders use of strict secrecy and media censorship could have put every country at risk. There were doctors in Wuhan that were silenced by the Chinese leaders when trying to let others know about the corona-virus. The people of Wuhan were still preparing for festivals and other mass population activities without even knowing their lives were in danger. The Chinese leaders say their reason for not speaking out was because they wanted to protect stability and that they had to wait for the approval process to give out their information to the public. At the end of the article the Editorial Board talks about comparing the Wuhan corona-virus outbreak to Chernobyl even hinting that not releasing the truth will come back to bite them.
