I am a professor at the University of Lethbridge. My research is in analytic number theory, particularly L-functions. I grew up in Vancouver and am of mixed Chinese–English descent. I completed my early schooling in East Vancouver before attending Capilano College and the University of British Columbia for my undergraduate studies in mathematics.
I moved to Toronto to complete a Master’s degree where I did a Master's project with John Friedlander, followed by a PhD at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of David Boyd. My doctoral thesis, Limiting Distributions and Zeros of Artin L-functions, was awarded the Canadian Mathematical Society Doctoral Prize in 2001.
Following my PhD, I held several postdoctoral and visiting positions, including at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), the University of Georgia, Université de Montréal, and the University of Michigan. I later served as an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa before moving to the Prairies to join my now wife at the University of Lethbridge.
I have been actively involved with the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences as a Collaborative Research Group principal investigator, site director, and organizer of numerous research activities. I gratefully acknowledge the support of NSERC for my research program, and in particular for supporting my supervision of highly qualified personnel.
