Hey! I am Nathan Rutherford (he/him). I was born and raised in Unadilla, New York, USA (a tiny town of 1,091 people, as of the 2022 census). I received my B.S in physics and mathematics from SUNY Oneonta in 2019. I obtained my Ph.D. in theoretical astrophysics in May 2025 being under the advising of Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein and the co-advising of Dr. Anna Watts. My work focuses on inferring constraints on the microphysics of neutron stars with and without the presence of dark matter accounted for using Bayesian statistics and the measurements of these stars, namely their masses, radii, and tidal deformabilities. Recently, my work has turned towards folding-in nuclear physics priors in the observational process of deriving the global properties of neutron stars. Currently I am the coordinating editor for the Foundational Review Series at the Foundational Questions Institute.
When I am not doing physics, I enjoy training my teenaged sassy yellow lab Ms. Faye Valentine, and cooking (especially anything to deal with pesto or chocolate)! I am also an avid PC gamer and anime watcher.
