As at tutor in the Writing Center my goal is to help to create a relaxed and productive environment where we not only help create stronger writing, but also more effective and confident writers. I believe that a tutorial is a collaborative process where writers and tutors bring both of their experiences to the table to discuss the standards and styles of writing to produce the best work possible.
I believe that a writer does not have to completely sacrifice their individual voice in order to meet arbitrary academic standards. In most cases there is a way to reconcile a writer's personal style with the specific requirements that professors expect students to meet. It is not my goal to impose my own academic experience and position on a writer but rather to offer it up as a way to discuss their own style in order to come away from the session having thought a little more deeply about how and why to produce great writing.
This is a research proposal focusing on how writing tutors make even short tutorials efficient and productive. To get a feeling for my revision process on this piece, here is a link to the first draft of my research proposal.
This an example of a discursive tool tutors use in the writing center to get writers thinking not just about what they are communicating in their writing, but how they are communicating it.
