Nate Fisher
My name is Nate Fisher, and I am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College.
I am broadly interested in geometric group theory, metric geometry, and dynamical systems. My most recent work has been focused on the horofunction (or metric) boundary, metric structures on the boundary itself, and the geometry of random surfaces. I am also interested in nilpotent groups, Teichmüller geometry, the dynamics of isometries, and the geometry of infinite-type surfaces.
Biography
After completing my undergrad degree in math and Spanish at Boston College, I moved to Manizales, Colombia for two years, where I taught English at a public high school and then at the SENA, a public trade and vocational school.
In 2015 I moved back to Boston for graduate school and completed my PhD in 2021 with Moon Duchin at Tufts University.
From Fall 2021 to Spring 2024, I worked as a postdoc with the Geometry, Group Actions, and Dynamics group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I was mentored by Tullia Dymarz.
