Role: Narrative Designer, Game Writer, Level Designer
In this cozy 2d pixel sidescroller, play as a grumpy wizard fisherman in the wake of a great calamity. Follow Ferrin’s journey as you fish in the twisted depths, explore a post-apocalyptic fantasy archipelago, and maybe even rediscover the hope in humanity.
I worked collaboratively with the Director and Art Director in the early stages of Spellhaven to draft out the initial concept. As the Narrative Designer, I worked across different roles to ensure the game stayed true to our story, and always advocated for narrative and strove to improve the story.
As the Game Writer, I wrote all of the in-game text: dialogue, questlines, filler dialogue, flavour text, and item descriptions. I focused on player readibility, inciting curiosity to learn more, and developing unique character voices that players would enjoy engaging with. I worked in Yarnspinner and Google Docs.
Spellhaven is my first time working in 2D level design, and I learned the Unity tilemap and grid system to build engaging and interesting levels for players to explore. I wanted the levels to both feel natural to traverse, and also feel lived-in by the inhabitants of the world.
