A grumpy old wizard fisherman is forced to navigate the dangerous depths of the archipelago in his search for pieces to fix his broken lighthouse. But outside his island, the world grows more dangerous every day, and the wizard must face his fears as he protects the people he’s grown to care for before it’s too late.
In the decades since a great calamity, the people of this soft fantasy world have settled into a new normality. But the dangerous waters of the archipelago are bursting with monsters, and unknowingly, the people's hope rests on the shoulders of the most unlikely person...
In a soft post-apocalyptic fantasy world, play as a grumpy old wizard fisherman as he navigates the dangerous stretches of an archipelago in his boat; fighting monsters, completing quests, and reluctantly even making friends.
Fantasy Fishing Game is a 2D pixel sidescroller exploring a soft fantasy world in the wake of a great calamity, a shattering of the world as we know it. Many decades later, when the seas have swallowed up most of the land, a grizzled wizard fisherman must venture out from his lonely lighthouse and finally face his fears.
We aim for our final piece to be a demo for a theoretical full game. There is potential for this game to be continued for the director’s Honours project next year. The demo will be roughly the first half hour of the game. This will include only the first few quests of the game.
We are aiming to keep our scope intentionally small and limited so that we are able to spend a lot of time polishing the game to a refined state before NZGDC. (New Zealand Game Developers Conference).
In terms of my Honours project, I aim to hand in both the project itself, and also a document similar to this one. This will detail narrative planning, some analysis of meetings and learning about storytelling in different roles, and also some analysis of different examples of interactive narrative and how they utilise different aspects of storytelling.
