Collaborative project with Stamford business community through ECON 2301 - Math Econ class. I consider this initiative a combination of innovation in the classroom and community outreach. Students worked on solving a real-world problem identified by Stamford business community and presented their solutions to this problem to community leaders at the end of the Fall 2019 semester. This project allowed students to engage in applied economic analysis and Stamford campus Career Center and Director’s Office to cultivate collaborative relationships with local businesses and City of Stamford administration. This project was challenging to coordinate and execute; students had mixed reactions to it because it pushed them outside of their comfort zone; but business leaders enjoyed the involvement with students and with the University. As all involved parties learned from this experience, it is my determination to continue these collaborations with adjustments to projects’ scope, to mentors’ recruitment, and to delivery mechanisms.
