I place pedagogy and organizing in the same section, because I strongly believe that they are linked– a good organizing conversation is about creating a vision and path forward together, and a good lesson is about creating knowledge together, regardless of whether you are teacher or student. I am deeply influenced by the conservation and sustainable development community in which I grew up, a pedagogy rooted in Latin American action research and the concept and practice of Atinchik (particularly under the guidance of Charo Lanao). I have served as departmental organizer for our graduate union, Graduate Students United. I also served as General Secretary for our first elected steering committee, among other leadership positions, and worked for the American Federation of Teachers as a release time organizer.
