What commitment is expected?

The members and director of the NCP expect a commitment to the full session plus two concerts.

As a caring choral community we want to support our members, and while we understand that illness and other emergencies do arise, we request that no more than two absences be incurred, as absences do impact the musical quality of the choral instrument.

If you plan to be absent, please email, call or text the director. We prefer that you don't send messages via others.

Do I have to audition?

Currently there will be a simple, painless voice placement process which consists of (1) preparing and singing a familiar hymn  (2) a voice placement exercise to pinpoint the section to which you are most suited.

Do I need to know how to read music?

While knowing how to read music is extremely beneficial, one of the foundational skills taught as part of every rehearsal is the rhythmic solfege system, Takadimi.  Takadimi is a fun and accessible way for all participants to develop advanced rhythmic music reading skills.

Besides weekly rehearsals, what optional educational opportunities are available to me?

With all the major shifts that have occurred both here and around the world, education has become largely unaffordable for many people.  “Alternative qualifications and certifications” are fast becoming popular ways to attain measurable skills.

Is music provided for the member?

Members are responsible for paying for their own music and folder.  NCP will do its best to negotiate discounts when possible.
