Imagine you have been transported into a fantasy world—a world of magic and quests, of creatures and adventure. You find yourself armed with a weapon, perhaps even one that glows with a faint enchantment. Your heart swills with the thought of the journey ahead, and you set out! Before long you come to a landmark—a hill, perhaps, or even a hut. Inside you find yourself faced with your first obstacle: a creature beyond even your imagination. You feel within you a surge of primal energy—the ancient call of battle wells up within you as you prepare to apprehend this mighty beast…
But what happens?
You die, probably. Perhaps instantly. You launch an anxious and poorly-calculated assault, and before you have time to realize you’ve shot completely wide of your mark, you’ve been eviscerated or pummeled into oblivion.
Such is the fate of many an eager traveler in the land of Auld. But this is not their story…
No, this is the story of the rare few that, by some twist of fate, survive their first patchy encounters and discover treasures beyond their imagining. Whetted by their fledgling scuffles, they tread deeper into the land, meeting greater and greater challenges along the way…
Auld Land is a simple turn-based role-playing game, inspired by the roguelike genre. It was designed with the goal of creating an entirely randomized RPG within the constraints of the Construct 2 demo, which allows a maximum of only 100 programming events. The result is simple but boundless, offering thousands of randomized monsters and items and a character system that is capped only by death.
Stats
There are five statistics in Auld Land: Hit Points, Strength, Agility, Intellect, and Defense. They function as follows:
Items
During your travels in Auld Land, you will encounter a number of different items which both grant your player additional stats and can be used to attack enemies. You can carry up to four items at a time, and you will receive the stat bonuses of any item in your inventory.
