Catalysts facilitate the kinetics and selectivity of chemical reactions, increasing their energy efficiency and reducing costs. Nanomaterials present an increased catalytic activity because of their higher surface area compared to their bulk face. In our group, we study the catalytic activity of nanomaterials in close-to-real conditions. We have focused on the study of the interaction of organic molecules and their intermediates with an array of nanoscaled gold features over a gold substrate. Moreover, we studied the catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles capped with polyhydroxy fullerene towards oxygen reduction and evolution for battery applications. We look forward to evaluating the catalytic activity of other nanomaterials.
