The U&I:BOND conference will take place at the main Conference Centre of University of Naples Federico II, located on the seafront (Via Partenope 36, Naples)

Accommodations

We have reserved a block of rooms for the workshop’s participants at the Royal Continental Hotel. The hotel is located within walking distance from the conference venue. We have also secured funding to cover lodging expenses from September 23 (check-in date) to September 28 (check-out date) for international speakers and from September 24 (check-in date) to September 28 (check-out date) for Italian speakers. Participants can opt to stay at a different hotel of their choice if they do not wish to receive financial support.

All the participants should have received an email from the organizers (specifically from Prof. Raffaella De Vita) with instructions on how to make their hotel reservation with their preferred payment method. Note that the participants will not be charged for their stay and the costs of their stay will be fully covered upon check-in on site. This is to prevent charges for no-shows.

IMPORTANT: After April 28, 2023 if the participants did not make their hotel reservation, they will need to cover their lodging expenses.

Top sights in Naples

The venue of the workshop is on the seafront and within a walking distance (10-30 minutes) from many interesting tourist attractions.

Undergrounds

While you wait for the start of our workshop, you can visit the Bourbon Tunnel: the tunnel and the surrounding underground environments provide a description of the last 500 years of Naples’ history. The access to the tunnel (via Morelli 61c) is 7 minutes away from the Hotel Royal Continental.

Another wonderful underground tour in Naples is La Neapolis Sotterrata, revealing Roman roads and parts of the ancient forum. The access (Piazza San Gaetano 68) is 40 minutes away from the Hotel Royal Continental and you can get there by crossing the heart of Naples.

For both the underground visits, booking is required and tickets can be obtained on the websites.

Art

Along the road from teh Hotel Royal Continental to Piazza San Gaetano 68, there are wonderful works of art. You cannot miss the Cappella Sansevero (via Francesco de Sanctis, 19/21) and its 18th century Cristo Velato, a life-size marble statue of the dead Christ.

Other top stops include the Basilica di Santa Chiara, with its majolica-tiled cloister, the Church of San Domenico Maggiore, where Thomas Aquinas lived and taught, and the Cathedral of Naples, which is the most ancient Basilica of Naples.

Getting on a bus (or taxi)

You can get on a taxi and visit the Museo di Capodimonte, which was the hunting retreat of the Bourbons in the 18th century. It is a gigantic three storey palace backed by more than 300 acres of gardens, and it is now a superb gallery, with works of art by Titian, Artemisia Gentileschi, Caravaggio, and beautiful contemporary collections.

By Tourist Train Campania Express (about every 3 hours), it takes 1 hour to go from the Hotel Royal Continetal to Ercolano or Pompei, the two beautiful cities that are frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. It takes even less time to arrive to Sorrento, a popular tourist destination located on the Sorrentine peninsula. You can also arrive to Sorrento by crossing the Gulf of Naples by boat.
