Capstone project

Personal Biography

I started to feel interested in art when I was in middle school and started to take art classes just because I didn't want to take band classes, but then I really liked it when we started. So after I got out of middle school and came to high school I decided to choose the Academy of media arts and Design and continue my art journey. Currently, I enjoy photography, painting, and ceramics. My art classes have taught me that I do not always have to be perfect with my projects because mistakes make the project unique and some mistakes turn beautiful and make the project more valuable.

The process

I wanted to create a piece that represents the BLM movement and police brutality because it is a big issue that many people deal with but shouldn't have to. I began this project by sketching out what I wanted to do it was a very rough sketch but I could picture what I wanted. Then I got a canvas and started to sketch on the canvas what I sketched on paper. after I sketched I went in and started to paint. First I started off with black paint because it was the darkest then I went in with grey for the lamp post. After the lamp post, I went in with the orange and yellow to create the light shining on the lamp post. Then I went in with white for the signs so that I could mix the red and blue paint to make it look like the police sirens reflecting off of the signs. which was very difficult at first but I ended up getting it then I added the sirens and the car then tire. Then for the rest of the time I ended up just cleaning it up and making sharper lines.

Connecting the capstone

My project connects to police brutality and the BLM movement. I represented this in my artwork by painting the sirens going off this is to show someone getting in trouble. I also added protest posters that represent the protests that were going on. When people look at this artwork I want them to understand that Black lives do matter and that it wasn't just a trend that was going around because it was all over the internet. Just because it isn't all over social media at the moment doesn't mean that it isn't still an issue.

Future changes

If I could go back and change some things I would add people holding the signs and more signs to make it look like its crowding the car more.
