From our market research, we have concluded the following information. Since our GUI should be simple enough for 5th graders to use but still be complex enough for a college professor to use, we decided to use high schoolers as our main population sample, including other adults in our survey too.
Our survey consists of analytical and opinionated questions that analyzed what people preferred in a graphical user interface.
The majority were aged 14-16 and 17-19; few 30 + years
Half were familiar or somewhat knowledgeable on GUIs
The majority has/had an issue with a GUI in their daily life
In a graphical user interface, the majority prefers:
Simple and clean interface
Easy to use and clear directions
Colorful and use of pictures and icons
Clear labeling and formatting
Functions that allow a user to perform multiple tasks at once
Automation
Data analysis and visuals
The majority sample population, being ages 14-19, had somewhat to no familiarity regarding graphical user interfaces.
In present-day society, grpahical user interfaces are becoming a much more prominnet factor in the everyday life of the average person. Neverthelss, majority of the sample currently have an existing or past issues with a graphcial user interface.
A high majority valued Apple products over Android because of their simplicity and powerful components; Apple has good functionality with its ease of use and clean layout.
People value pictures and color when viewing a graphics user interface.
