Summer School Venue

The Summer School will take place in Torino, Italy, on 19th - 20th September, at Politecnico di Torino and Università degli Studi di Torino.

Specifically, the sessions of 19th morning and 20th will take place in the main campus of Politecnico di Torino at:

Reaching Torino

The most common ways to reach Torino city are the following:

  – By flight to Torino Airport (Caselle, TRN) and then:

•  in about 30 minutes by train (3.60 EUR one way, tickets on the Trenitalia App or website): about every 30 min, approximately from 5.30 am to 10 pm;

• in about 45-50 minutes by bus (7.50 EUR one way, link): every 15 min from 7.00 am to 7.30 pm, every 30 min from 8.00 pm to 00.00 am. Other than online, tickets can be also purchased from ticket machines or ticket sellers inside the airport, or on the bus itself;

• in about 30 minutes by taxi (approximately 40 EUR one way).

  – By flight to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) and then in about 1 hour and 50 minutes by bus (22 EUR one way, link) or by taking the train bound for Torino Porta Susa (transfer at Milan Central Station is necessary; see Trenitalia website or App).

  – By train to the station Torino Porta Susa or to the station Torino Porta Nuova, both serving the city center and close to Politecnico di Torino.

Public transportation

Torino is a relatively walkable city and you can reach the main central square (Piazza Castello) from Politecnico di Torino in a stroll of about 40 minutes. 

Alternatively, there are buses, street cars, and one subway line running from early morning until about midnight: one ticket costs 2.00 EUR (1.90 EUR if using digital ticket) and allows unlimited travels for 100 minutes upon ticket validation. There are also daily and multiday tickets available: further information can be found on the GTT website (link). Public transportation is quite regular (typical wait is shorter than 10 minutes), but you can download the app “Moovit” or use Google Maps for detailed schedules and to plan your trip.

Hotels and accomodation

Torino has hundreds of B&B options, guest houses, vacation rentals, and many other hotel and accommodation options available. Our suggestion is to use any of the website services to book accommodations online, such as (but not limited to) Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia.com, Priceline.com. There, you will find many more options and more freedom to choose the accommodation that best suits your needs. If you book on your own, we only recommend that you choose an option within the green perimeter in the map below and avoid the area south-east of the train station “Torino Porta Nuova”, which is a fun area to go out at night but quite noisy and chaotic.

Typical prices for a single occupancy hotel room in September fall between 100 and 150 EUR per night.
