Research & Vision
At the Nano Energy & Interface Laboratory, we explore how materials can be engineered at the nanoscale to address challenges in clean energy and environmental sustainability. Our research bridges photonics, semiconductor physics, chemistry, and materials science to design functional architectures ranging from 1D nanowires and nanorods to hollow nanotubes, 2D nanosheets, and hierarchical nanostructures. Through physical deposition, electrochemical fabrication, and hydrothermal synthesis, we precisely engineer nanostructures and interfaces to tailor their structural, electronic, and functional properties. Beyond creating new materials, we investigate the fundamental relationships among nanostructure, electronic states, charge-carrier dynamics, interfacial processes, and functional performance, integrating experiments with theoretical simulations through computational collaborations. This synergy between experimental innovation, interface and energy-band engineering, and computational insights enables advanced material platforms for solar-driven CO2 conversion, electrophotocatalytic wastewater remediation, and next-generation perovskite solar cells. Our long-term vision is to translate fundamental nanoscale understanding into efficient and sustainable technologies for energy and the environment.
