Highlights:

• Seismic stability analysis of finite soil and rock slopes

• Based on a unified framework of slip line theory, recent pseudo-dynamic approaches and strength reduction technique

• A novel concept of limiting slope profile (LSP) operates as an auto-guided measure for slope stability

• This new stability criterion obviates the need for any preordained collapse mechanism in the analysis 

• The derived slope geometry also responds well with the morphological aspects involved in landscape evolution

• It mandates a quick and inexpensive measure for stability of both new and existing slopes 

• In confirmation with different case studies and numerical simulation
