Nandini Ramesh

I am a Senior Research Scientist in Natural Hazards and Climate Risk at CSIRO (Natural Systems Modelling Group, Data61). I was previously a Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre for Data Analytics for Resources and the Environment (DARE) at the University of Sydney, and prior to that, a postdoctoral researcher in the department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, in William Boos' lab.

My research focuses on the physics of the climate of the Tropics, including topics such as spatial patterns of tropical precipitation, predictability and the mechanisms underlying El Niño/La Niña events, the role of the ocean in tropical climate, and impacts of the ocean's physical state on ecosystems. In much of my work, I employ novel statistical and mathematical techniques in order to gain new insight into the climate system.

I received my Ph.D. from Columbia University (advised by Profs. Mark A. Cane and Richard Seager), a M.Sc. in Earth Physics from the Australian National University (advised by Prof. Andy Hogg), and a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Madras.
