Art Therapy is a treatment approach that integrates the creative process with psychotherapeutic techniques to improve emotional and mental well-being.
It is suitable for adults and children (above 5 years) dealing with emotionally or physically challenging/stressful situations.
Individual sessions are held in my art studio or online once a week. They are one-on-one and all required art materials are provided. Each session runs upto 50 minutes. Strict confidentiality is maintained with regard to what is said in the sessions and who I work with.
In the first session, I take a brief history of the person's life, i.e why they are here and what they expect from therapy. Subsequent sessions consist of either only talking and/or creating some form of art (drawing, painting, crafts or sculpture) depending on the comfort of the client.
The decisions about what to make and what material to use is either the client's idea, my guidance or it could be a combination of both. Art work made in a previous session can inspire what emerges in subsequent sessions. I sometimes work along with or along side the client. I also encourage the client to reflect on the art making process, the image, and the life situation at hand and what questions it raises.
The artwork is reviewed together once every 5-6 sessions (or as needed) to gain insights & review goals.
All the artwork is kept safe and confidential in my studio until our work together is completed.
