I am a lifelong educator. I began my teaching career in 1983 as a Vocational Agriculture Teacher in Clarksburg in the Sacramento Delta. From 1998 to 2018, I worked as a Special Education teacher at Britton Middle School. In 2018, I became Assistant Principal at Britton and served in that role until retiring in 2021.
During my years as a teacher, I also served as head girls' basketball coach, union representative, department chair, and mentor teacher. These experiences gave me the opportunity to work closely with students, families, teachers, staff, and administrators.
My husband and I raised our two sons in Morgan Hill. As parents, we experienced MHUSD schools from kindergarten through high school graduation, giving me both an educator's and a parent's perspective on our schools.
As a school board member, I fight for transparency, fiscal responsibility, academic achievement, and meaningful involvement of stakeholders in major decisions. I am a strong supporter of teachers and believe that working together with families, educators, staff, and our community is essential to helping every student succeed.
As a current trustee, I have found myself on the minority of a school board that tends to vote Four in favor and Three opposed to approving district budgets that perpetuate deficit spending with no clear (or even fuzzy) plans to end the deficit spending. While I support most programs that the district has in place, I am opposed to having a separate FACE Center (Family and Community Engagement) located behind Britton Middle School. These services belong at our Community Schools, San Martin-Gwinn and P.A. Walsh, not centralized, requiring additional staff to run these programs. Many services provided at the FACE Center could take place on existing (and staffed) campuses throughout the community. In addition, some services duplicate those provided already by district personnel and Community Organizations.
I oppose adding new administrative jobs at the District Office for positions that don't interface with students, such as adding two new administrative positions in Human Resources and a new position as Equity Coordinator in the last few years. This work has historically been done with existing personnel. During declining enrollment, increasing D.O. staff makes no sense to me. The community understands the importance of providing good governance and fiscal oversight of Morgan Hill Unified School District and I'm confident that the board trustees seated in December, 2026 will join me in my fight to rein in over spending and duplicating services provided by Community Organizations.
