Design Ideation
User Research: Conducted user interviews and gathered insights from potential users (plumbers, homeowners, etc.). Explored pain points related to leak detection and valve control.
Brainstorming Sessions: Collaborated with engineers and other team members to brainstorm ideas for the valve’s interface. We considered factors such as ease of use, visual clarity, and real-time feedback.
Sketches and Wireframes: Created initial sketches and low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the layout and flow of the valve control app. Iterated based on feedback from stakeholders.
User Interface Design
Visual Hierarchy: Designed a clean and organized interface, prioritizing essential information. Placed critical elements (such as leak alerts and valve status) prominently.
Color Palette: Chose a color scheme that conveyed trust, reliability, and urgency. Blues and greens represented water-related themes, while red indicated critical alerts.
Icons and Symbols: Developed custom icons for actions like opening/closing the valve, checking for leaks, and adjusting settings. Ensured consistency across the app.
Responsive Design: Adapted the interface for various devices (smartphones, tablets, and desktops) to ensure a seamless experience.
User Experience Flow
Leak Detection Alerts:
When a leak is detected, the app triggers an alert (visual and audible) to notify the user.
Users receive real-time notifications on their mobile devices, allowing them to take immediate action.
Valve Control:
The app provides a clear interface for users to open or close the valve remotely.
Visual feedback (animated valve icon) confirms the valve’s current state.
Settings and Preferences:
Users can customize leak sensitivity levels, notification preferences, and valve behavior.
Designed an intuitive settings page with straightforward toggles and sliders.
Impact and Recognition
Our collaborative efforts led to a successful prototype that impressed both our team and stakeholders. The automatic closing valve system received positive feedback during testing, and we’re excited about its potential impact in preventing water wastage and minimizing damage.
