There is a Mythological Story attached to this ceremony in which Mother Jivantika saves life of a Prince Shivkumar who is originally a son of Brahmin mother living in his kingdom.

Queen's servant steals son of brahmin lady on the day of her delivery and gives him to queen as queen has no child.
