Hello! My name is David . In April 2024 I ended a 3 1/2 year online campaign. After a break, I am ready to start a new online campaign.
My DM style:
Let's have a fun time. While we use the rules, we won't get hung up in them where it makes the game not fun.
I try to be creative so that the game is not just the same old plain jane environment. I try to mix in things to make it interesting where something requires you to think about options of what to do or for a normal situation to have a twist to it.
I use homebrew campaigns and adventures.
Everyone gets to participate.
Encourage creativity and role playing. Role playing and exploring are important aspects of the game. There is combat as usual, but not everything will always be combat.
I believe a game can be fun and interesting without being crude. Be sure that you are fine with the items in the rules and standards page of the web site.
Number of players in the game: 4-5
New players to D&D are welcome. If you don't know much about D&D that is OK. I just ask that you are willing to learn the basics and I have some reference materials I will share with you. I will be patient in the sessions, just make an effort to learn the basics.
4-5 is a good number of players, not too small but not large enough where people get lost or cannot all take part.
Game play:
The game will use the Foundry virtual tabletop for the main game (character sheets, rolls, maps, etc.) and Discord for chat. We will see if the players want to use video with the chat or not.
Characters will be built using D&D Beyond online, and then the characters will be imported into the Foundry VTT (virtual tabletop). Leveling up can be done in D&D Beyond and changes imported into Foundry VTT character sheets.
Maps are intended to enhance the game, but listen to the DM's descriptions, Not everything in a location is seen on the map, things might look more detailed or different than they look on the map, etc. You can assume that what you see on the map is basically there unless told otherwise, but do not assume you know details about an item or location based solely on the map.
Often the game quests will revolve around fulfilling specific goals. As the game progresses, aspects of the world will begin to be seen that will lead to some longer term story arcs or themes. Character backgrounds often lead to story arcs. Past actions of the party can come up again later on in the campaign.
The Namica Discord server will be used for out of game communications, announcements, etc. between sessions.
D&D 5E 2024 Player's Handbook rules:
We are going to use the new 2024 Player's Handbook. This means:
Only species (previously called races), classes, subclasses, backgrounds, etc. from the new 2024 Player's Handbook can be used.
Rules used will be the new 2024 Player's Handbook versions unless otherwise noted in the homebrew rules.
You will be able to access the full new 2024 Player's Handbook on D&D Beyond through a campaign invite link.
