Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma
Kiowa man and woman graphics were made by Dean Ahdokobo for the Kiowa Language Program; Reformatted August, 2020.
Phonic description (respelling): Gkoy-bay-goo ate mau-hay-mau
The approximate translation is "We are learning Kiowa ways" or "We are learning the Kiowa way of doing things, thinking, and speaking". In the early phases of the program, the elder mentors advised that, when possible, the program will use the Kiowa name for the program (as opposed to the English name). The elder mentors at that time decided that having language knowledge was not the only thing at stake. We were also learning about the "Kiowa way" of doing things and Kiowa thinking. It was decided that this title encompassed all of those ideas.

Pre-pandemic and early in the program, the teacher candidates enjoyed in-person language sessions on a weekly basis. This photo is in loving memory of the late Juanita Ahtone and the late Ernest "Iron" Toppah.
