About our Programs:
The mission of Ke Kula Nā ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani o Kaʻū is to provide our keiki of Kaʻū with opportunities to achieve academic success and personal growth through a Hawaiian immersion and place-based education experience. Ke Kula Nā ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani o Kaʻū is an inclusive center of knowledge, where we teach the whole 'Ohana: Keiki, Makua, and Kūpuna- through Family-Child Interaction Learning (FCIL). Ke Kula Nā ʻAʻaliʻi Kū Makani o Kaʻū provides support to our lāhui of Kaʻū — including home-schooled ʻohana grades K-5 and Pre-Kindergarten keiki — through an ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi immersion program grounded in culture and ʻāina.
Kū Hāweo Pilot Project:
With this project we provided ʻOhana Child Interaction Learning opportunities to preschool-aged keiki (0-5 years old) and their ʻohana, to establish school readiness and lay the foundation for a Hawaiian language and cultural immersion early learning program here in Kaʻū.
Kū Hāweo Pre-K & K-5 Kula Papa
Our Kū Hāweo Pre-K (FCIL) and K–5 Kula Papa homeschool supplemental education program provides a Hawaiian language and cultural immersion experience rooted in place-based learning. Students strengthen academic skills while developing ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, cultural knowledge, and a deep connection to the land through hands-on, place-based activities, outdoor exploration, and ʻike kupuna (traditional knowledge). The program supports homeschooling families by fostering curiosity, stewardship, and a lifelong love of learning in a culturally grounded environment.
