This striking building is widely considered one of the finest examples of historic architecture in Batumi, and a closer look reveals some fascinating design illusions. Every single decorative detail on the facade was sculpted entirely out of the raw brick layout itself, except for the very bottom base, which was cleverly plastered to trick the eye into seeing heavy stonework. Built with a love for perfect symmetry, the side of the house even features completely "blind" (bricked-up) windows just to keep the visual balance. While the front shows off elegant wrought-iron balconies for the public eye, the back hides a cozy courtyard lined with private, open-air wooden verandas.
