1. 한 밤 중 얍복강 나루터에 홀로 남은 야곱의 마음은 어떠했을까요?
How do you think Jacob felt when he was left all alone at the ford of the Jabbok River in the middle of the night?
2. 어둠 속에서 누군가가 갑자기 야곱을 공격했습니다. 싸움을 하는 동안 야곱은 그에 대해 점점 무엇을 깨달아갔을까요?
In the darkness, someone suddenly attacked Jacob. As Jacob wrestled with him, what do you think he slowly began to realize about this person?
3. 하나님은 왜 하필 “씨름”이라는 방법으로 야곱과 겨루셨을까요?
Why do you think God chose to wrestle with Jacob?
4. 하나님께서 야곱에게 “이스라엘”이라는 새 이름을 주신 의미는 무엇일까요?

야곱은 평생 누군가를 붙잡아 속이고 넘어뜨리는 씨름으로 문제를 해결하는 삶을 살아왔습니다. 하지만 하나님께서는 그가 당신을 간절하고 온전하게 붙잡고 의지하는 씨름을 하며 살기를 바라셨습니다. 하나님께서 야곱에게 주신 “이스라엘”이라는 이름이 우리에게도 해당되는 이름이라고 한다면 우리는 어떤 마음과 태도로 삶을 살 수 있을까요?
Jacob had spent his whole life trying to solve his problems by grabbing onto others, deceiving them, and trying to knock them down. But God wanted Jacob to learn a different kind of wrestling—the kind where he would hold on to God with desperation, trust, and complete dependence.
If the name “Israel,” which God gave to Jacob, is also a name that speaks to us, what kind of heart and attitude should we have as we live our lives?
