El Paso City
Located in far West Texas along the Rio Grande, El Paso is a vibrant border city known for its rich blend of Mexican and American cultures, beautiful desert landscapes, and historic architecture. Visitors can explore the El Paso Mission Trail, shop and dine in the lively Downtown Arts District, hike scenic trails at Franklin Mountains State Park, and enjoy panoramic views from the Wyler Aerial Tramway. The city is also home to The Plaza Theatre, museums, galleries, and a growing food scene.
Franklin Mountains State Park
Just minutes from downtown, this is one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. and offers hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and wildlife viewing. The rugged mountains rise dramatically above the desert and provide stunning views of El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, and the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert. Popular trails include Ron Coleman Trail and Aztec Cave Trail.
Scenic Drive – Overlook
This winding drive along the southern edge of the Franklin Mountains offers breathtaking views of the El Paso–Juárez metro area. At the Scenic Drive Overlook, visitors can stop to admire the city lights, take photos, and learn about the region from interpretive signs. It’s especially beautiful at sunset or nighttime.
Hueco Tanks State Historic Site
Located about 30 miles northeast of El Paso, this historic site is known for its unique rock formations, ancient pictographs, and excellent bouldering opportunities. Hueco Tanks has been a sacred place for Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Guided tours are available to protect the fragile environment and historic markings.
White Sands National Park
Located about 100 miles northeast of El Paso, this surreal natural wonder features vast dunes of glistening white gypsum sand. Visitors can sled down the dunes, hike scenic trails, or simply marvel at the beauty of the world’s largest gypsum dune field. Sunset and moonlight strolls are especially magical.
Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Roughly two hours from El Paso, this park in southeastern New Mexico is home to over 100 limestone caves. The Big Room is one of the largest underground chambers in North America. Visitors can explore self-guided or ranger-led tours and, in summer, watch thousands of bats fly out of the cave at dusk.
Chamizal National Memorial
Located in central El Paso, this park and cultural center commemorates the peaceful resolution of a border dispute between the U.S. and Mexico. It features art exhibits, outdoor performances, walking paths, and historical exhibits that celebrate binational friendship and cooperation.
