Hi, I am Nachiappan. I presently work as a Software Engineer at Google in Mountain View, CA. In my current role at Google, I work on computer vision and machine learning problems to model user attention. Prior to joining Google, I was as a Senior Systems Engineer at Qualcomm Research, San Diego, CA. At Qualcomm Research, I mainly worked on the research and development of next-generation LTE-based unlicensed radio access technologies and coexistence algorithms.
I completed my Bachelor's in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai, India in 2010. I pursued my Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2012. During my graduate study, I worked on developing a new low-complexity modulation technique for mm-Wave wireless systems under the supervision of Prof. Robert W. Heath, Jr. I was also a member of The Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) and The Wireless Systems Innovation Lab (WSIL).
Previously, I worked as an undergraduate research associate at the Integrated Systems Laboratory (ISL), a constituent laboratory of Dept. of ECE, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai, India. I was guided by Prof. P.V. Ramakrishna. At this lab my work was primarily focused on communication system design and simulation. To view a list of my recent research projects click here.
Broadly, my research interests span Statistical Machine Learning with emphasis on Large-scale Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, High-dimensional Statistics and Optimization.
