NABEC 2022 Young Engineer of the Year

This year’s recipient of the NABEC Young Engineer of the Year Award is Dr. Long He, Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State University.

Dr. He has been an assistant professor for the past three years at Penn State University. Prior to that Dr. He served in various research positions from 2003 to 2017 at Yanshan University, China, Washington State University, and University of California at Davis. His research has included various aspects related to fruit tree production including thinning, improved yield, frost protection, irrigation and pest control. Dr He as received various project awards related to fruit tree production.

Dr. He has and continues to do extension and outreach at Penn State University. He has extensive experience in teaching and mentoring at Washington State and Penn State Universities.

Dr. He is very active in ASABE and NABEC including various leadership roles and committee assignments. He is currently the NABEC Standards Council Representative. Dr. He has won several ASABE awards.

According to colleagues, students, and associates Dr. He has the following qualities and abilities;

- Listens to others and genuinely pays attention to different solutions from different perspectives

- Communicates effectively so that the team members can quickly create an impact

- A strong sense of responsibility to his undergraduate and graduate students

- Easy to access and an excellent listener to mentees

NABEC Distinguished Service Award

This year Distinguished Service Award recipient is Dr. Satyanarayan (Satya) Dev of the Florida A&M University. Dr. Dev has been a member of ASABE for 16 years. He has served on various NABEC planning committee assignments since 2010. Since 2010 Dr. Dev has has served the critical roles of the NABEC Webmaster and Newsletter Editor. He is currently the NABEC secretary. Dr. Dev also has and continues to serve on at least eight ASABE committees and holds various Certifications and Fellowships.

Satya served as the ZOOM host for the 2020 and 2021 virtual NABEC. Through his superior technical skills and organization assured that these virtual conferences were successful. The following statement summarizes Satya’s dedication and service to NABEC and ASABE.

Throughout NABEC membership Dr. Dev has unconditionally volunteered time and skills in several capacities for this professional community. He annually presents at meetings, serves as technical support, and moderates sessions. He is always willing to volunteer and help, often at the last minute and when it may be a personal inconvenience.
