Mark Wilson's "Sophie Bay" (planning)
Mark Wilson's "Sophie Bay" (planning)
Proposed size 6'' X 10", operating pit 7.5' X 3' and 4' at the Charlotte end. It represents part of the mythical SAR Fleurieu Div. south of Willunga with Boat Train connections to the island of Macropodia. This Div. includes interchange with the privately operated Amanda, Tooperang and Santa Fe trackage to the Amanda valley. SAR line continues north from Charlotte to Yankalilla with a branch to Victor Harbor via Inman valley and connection to Tailem Bend direct via the never built Strathalbyn to Monarto cut off. Two other branches are to Rapid Bay (stone traffic) and the Myponga to Kuipo Forrest line (dairy and timber). Modelled portion is south of Yankalilla. (Sophie Bay History)
(the SAR Fleurieu Div. is loosely based on the Willunga to Yankalilla railway extension proposal that is discussed in the 1980 Nesfield Press publication "Some Historically Insoluble Railway Problems in South Australia" by Reece Jennings)
