Welcome!
This is my website, where I present an overview of my research activities and output.
I am a geologist interested in understanding the structural development of the Earth's crust—especially fold-thrust belts—its expression in the evolving landscape, and the tectonic geomorphology of various settings.
Photo 1: The Greater Zab River crosses the Perat Anticline at Bekhme, in the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This is an example of the interaction between a growing anticline and a river, where a deep cut in the anticline is formed by the river’s downcutting. Abandoned river terraces can be seen below the houses on the opposite side of the river.
Photo 2: The Rodalquilar Gold Mine, looking east-southeast. The colorful, altered volcanic rocks are exposed along the cuts. These volcanic rocks also form the low areas in the background, while the light-colored and layered Late Miocene carbonate rocks are exposed on the hills—except for the large hill with towers on it, which is still composed of volcanic rocks. Further back, the Mediterranean Sea can be seen.
