It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to Myton School's Art Department’s first ever online art exhibition. Although we would love to put up a physical display, you will understand that the past few years have created many issues, particularly in terms of space where work can hang for an acceptable period of time. Although we try hard to put work in classrooms and in the main foyer, it makes us sad that so many incredible pieces are never seen.
I am so excited for you to share in the success of our students who have worked tirelessly at GCSE and at A level. I am proud of their commitment and dedication to the subject, but I am especially proud of the brave approach they take when exploring their own personal ideas. The work that you are about to see is very special and is unlike many schools. It demonstrates how confident our students are to express themselves and who they are, without fear of judgement. As a department we aspire to create artists rather than simply students studying art. There has never been a more important time for creativity and self-expression for young people, in a world where mental health is at the forefront of everyone’s minds.
The exhibition is split into two parts; GCSE and A level.
At GCSE the work is inspired by the starting theme ‘identity’ and a selection of set exam themes including ‘the dining room, movies, hair, music, construction.’ All students respond to these themes in their own way and although we support them with the development ideas, this work is entirely their own.
At A level students devise their own themes and develop their own responses for all their work.
This is a totally inclusive art exhibition with all our students represented. We have not selected what we believe is the best; this is a celebration of all.
We really hope you enjoy the work and would love to hear your feedback.
