Hierarchy:
Amila De holds several titles and is the highest authority in the Crescent. She is the Crescent, the High priestess of Saphira, and she is the high Chieftain of the Socra tribe. On most occasions, females hold most of the leading positions, but it isn’t unheard of for males to be in leadership positions. All ships are run by females as the high commanders. And all the families are run by a female. But tribes can be run by Males. Armies, fleets and task forces are also run by males. During encounters with the Crescent, it is often observed that the female commanders and leaders demand to speak with the female commander of the other side.
Technology:
The Crescent are warp capable. Just like Starfleet, their ships are different sizes and they also have carrier-class vessels. The Crescent do not have cloak capability but they can hide their warp signal pretty well and are able to hide their ships long enough from scanners until they are very close to their enemy.
Most of their technology is based on enhancing their mental abilities in battle. They have phasers and torpedoes on their ships. It often also entails mirrors and holo emitters to help their mental abilities misguide their enemy scanners. Their mentality on a grand scale can only be stopped by a shielding technology that was developed in an alternate timeline. The shielding technology from the Paranormal universe was designed to add a second shield that would block out the opposing Crescent's mental ability.
Side note: Currently only the USS Ottawa-A (Insignia class) and the USS Lorelei (Steamrunner class) have this technology. Starfleet R&D are working on duplicating the technology.
Amila De developed 2 small devices that could suppress the Crescent's mental abilities. This keeps her in control over her people and maintains her position for a long time. The second device she had given to Orson, as she trusted him to use it when needed. Orson betrayed his grandmother and gave the device to Doctor T’San and Lieutenant Kimoni Jexen on the USS Shanghai.
Timeline of events:
It is assumed the Crescent was created by the Founders shortly before the formation of the Dominion but was later abandoned. There are no recordings of any encounter with the Crescent before and during the Dominion War. It is possible they were waiting for their Founder deities to return and install them in the Dominion, but it never happened. So they started their cleansing crusade.
The first official encounter was in 2394 when the Bajoran colony, New Bajor, was one of the first planets to be attacked in the crusade of the Crescent. The USS Juno, now USS Shanghai, was sent out to investigate and save the prisoners. Unfortunately, the Colony Chancellor was killed and Lieutenant Aanyo was brutally injured. Orson managed to heal her, but she still has Amnesia.
In 2396 the Crescent scout ship Luna under the command of Annais Li came very close to Starbase New Haven and managed to disable the entire fleet there on a technical level when on behalf of Amila De declared war on the Federation, Alpha Quadrant and even the Klingon empire. The entire fleet was unable to stop as the Luna went on and destroyed the USS Constantinople, which was escorting Admiral Bich Le to the Starbase. Nothing of the ship was left, and the fleet lost an admiral.
2397 Current, Star Fleet is in an active state of war with the Crescent, but no actual blowouts have been recorded.
