The mysql-connector-java-5.1.46.jar and mysql-connector-java-5.1.46-bin.jar are binary identical, except for the META-INF/INDEX.LIST (which contains the actual jar filename). I have unzipped both and compared them using kdiff3.

The bundle for Connector/J 5.1 delivered by Oracle now contains an additional jar package with the name mysql-connector-java-5.1.ver.jar (mysql-connector-java-commercial-5.1.ver.jar for commercial bundles). It is identical with the other jar package with the original package named mysql-connector-java-5.1.ver-bin.jar (mysql-connector-java-commercial-5.1.ver-bin.jar for commercial bundles), except for its more Maven-friendly file name. It appears this was a bug that was filed with MySQL pertaining to the JDBC driver version I was using. I was originally using mysql-connector-java-5.1.17.jar. I have since upgraded to mysql-connector-java-5.1.38-bin.jar and this issue has gone away.

Use the version 5.7 of the connector : mysql-connector-java-5.1.49 (I tried to rename package/restart serive/..) > when I use this version the error switch to : Could not find driver with class name: com.mysql.cj.jdbc.Driver

It appears you may be running liquibase from a windows machine. If so, correct the value of classpath to point to the absolute location (e.g. of the MySQL driver mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar (although relative would work too, I prefer absolute)

I have copied (mysql-connector-java-5.1.7-bin.jar). to $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/lib already so this is done.

So know i need to copy the $JBOSS_HOME/docs/examples/jca/mysql-ds.xml file to $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/deploy .

Then when this is done i only need to edit the mysql-ds.xml file. Replace MySqlDS with your datasource name,

Replace jdbc:mysql://mysql-hostname:3306/jbossdb with my connection string,

and then last username and pasword. Then all this should be finished i hope? Please let me know if this is all i need to do or if there are more things i need to change?

Thank you very much for your quick replay with this matter. I'll be back again if i don't get this to work but let's hope not. Cheers again for this!!!

For what you say, seems that you installed the "PDI MySql Plugin". To be honest, I've never had the need to use it but I assume that the only thing you'd need is to delete the prior "mysql-connector-java-5.1.23.jar" and replace it with the new "mysql-connector-java-5.1.49.jar" (don't copy the "-bin" jar as it can give you some problems).

I had to downloaded the MySQL java connector (mysql-connector-java-5.1.30) rather than default OpenSuSE 1-click install YaST .ymp so I could add the .jar via preferences > knime > database driver as normal

I am trying to test Splunk DB Connect (on a DEVTEST instance CentOS 8, Splunk 8.0.2, Splunk DB Connect 3.3.0, openjdk 11.0.6, mysql-connector-java-5.1.48-bin.jar) to connect to a remote MariaDB 5.5.5 server. 17dc91bb1f
