CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
A single static PowerPoint/Canva slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or 'movement' of any description are allowed. The slide is to be presented from the beginning of the oration.
The 3-minute thesis (3MT) presentation should address the problem the research aims to solve, the methodology, and the significance of the findings/results.
We welcome submissions of original research (including preliminary/pilot studies). Concept papers, systematic reviews and meta-analytical research will be rejected.
No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted.
No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted.
Presentations are limited to 3 minutes maximum and competitors exceeding 3 minutes will be disqualified.
Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps or songs). Presentation language is English.
Presentations are considered to have commenced when a presenter starts their presentation through either movement or speech. No pre-recorded presentations will be accepted.
The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.

Use a high-quality microphone or headset to ensure clear sound.
Record in a quiet environment to minimise background noise.
Ensure the video and audio are continuous with no edits or breaks (i.e. one take/frame only)
Record in a well-lit area to ensure the presenter’s face is clearly visible. Use a plain background to avoid distractions.
The video should be filmed horizontally from a static position and a single camera angle.
Presenters should position themselves so that they are visible from the waist up.
Avoid costumes or props, as they are against the competition rules.
A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted.
All 3MT abstracts must be submitted through an online Abstract Submission System (Google form).
The Scientific Program Committee of MySOMOI-USM Symposium 2025 will review all 3MT abstracts.
Conditional acceptance/rejection will be sent to participants via email by 25 August 2025. Registration is confirmed only after payment of registration is received.
Instructions for abstract preparation:
TITLE of the abstract
In Bold, UPPERCASE and Centred
No full stop (or period) at the end and no underlining.
AUTHORS of the abstract
Full name of authors (First name, Middle name and Surname)
Use superscript letters to indicate each affiliation.
Their affiliations must be written in Title Case and Centred
The presenting author should be Underlined
The email address of the presenter
BODY of the abstract
A maximum limit of 250 words is allowed (this is excluding Title, Authors, Affiliations and Key words).
Type with 1.0 spacing, 11-point Arial font and justified.
The abstract structure must consist of: Introduction, Objective(s), Methods, Results/Expected Results and Conclusion.
A maximum of 5 key words must be provided.
The template provided can be used as a guideline for abstract preparation.
The file must be saved as a Microsoft Word file with a “.docx” extension.
Name the file as “[Presenter’s name]_3MT”, e.g., ‘Muhammad Adam_3MT’
Please submit the abstract through the online Abstract Submission System by 4 August 2025.
Abstract submission also certifies that at the time of submission, the scientific work in the abstract has not been presented at any other meeting and has not been published in any scientific publications prior to MySOMOI-USM Symposium 2025.
The decision of the scientific committee is final.
