WHAT TO BRING TO LAND:
Your Sanctuary t-shirt, if you already have one
Any items you are lending or donating to Sanctuary
Water! We always need extra water
Your photo ID (you will not be given a radio without one!)
WHEN YOU ARRIVE ON-LAND:
Stop by Volunteer HQ
Check the schedule and confirm your shifts
If there is an error on any of your shifts, please make sure they correct the master schedule before you leave HQ! Then stop by Sanctuary and make sure we have it right too.
DAY OF SHIFT:
20-30 MIN BEFORE YOUR SHIFT:
Make sure you’re at baseline.
Use your noggin. If you wouldn’t show up to work in your current state, don’t show up to work at Sanctuary
BUT PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT!
Gather any supplies you may need for your shift (snacks, gear, water, book, crafts, etc.)
Check in at Volunteer HQ! Your shift will not count towards next year's incentive ticket requirements if you do not do this.
If you are NOT a listener, bring your ID so you can check out a radio.
Pick up your shirt (if you haven’t already) and put it on. Make sure your genitals are covered and your clothing is LOW STIMULUS.
Pro Tip: Don’t be the ass hat wearing strobe LEDs in Sanctuary.
15 MIN BEFORE YOUR SHIFT:
Arrive at Sanctuary
Check in with your supervisor and MHA
Read the log book
Get fully briefed by the outgoing team
Review training with MHA
TOP OF SHIFT:
You’re ready to listen!
Check out the listener training book or the participant resources for interesting literature to brush up on during down time.
Help yourself to snacks, water, coffee, art supplies, or sensory toys while you are there.
Thank your fellow volunteers for showing up and pat yourself on the back. You made this burn happen!
Radio PRACTICE
Grab something, pretend it’s a radio, and say the words!
Signing On/Off Shift
Volunteer: [wait for quiet, push button, wait one sec] “All-con, All-con, this is [your radio handle] coming on/off shift for Sanctuary.”
Radio: [nothing probably][maybe “You’re a radio!”]
Calling for Rangers
Volunteer: [wait for quiet, push button, wait one sec] “Khaki, Khaki, this is Sanctuary.”
Radio: “Go for Khaki.”
Volunteer: “I need a face-to-face with a Ranger here at Sanctuary ASAP, over.”
Radio: “You said you need a face-to-face with a Ranger at Sanctuary ASAP?”
Volunteer: “Yes.”
Radio: “Whiskey that, they’ll be on their way soon.”
Volunteer: “Thank you, Sanctuary out.”
Calling for your MHA or MEATs
Exactly as above, but replace “Khaki” with “MHA” or “MEATs.”
If you know the person’s radio handle who you want to reach, you can call them directly.
