MyopiaMate is an iOS application designed to track myopia control treatments. Create reminders, follow your progress with an interactive "pirate map," and see statistics for your treatment completion!

What does the Myopia App actually do?
It helps you stay on top of a myopia control treatment plan. You set up reminders for whatever your eye doctor has prescribed (drops, ortho-k lenses, soft contacts, or myopia-control spectacles), tick off each day as you go, and log your prescription changes over time so you can see how things are trending.
Is this a medical device or a diagnostic tool?
No. The app doesn't diagnose anything and it doesn't give medical advice. Any decisions about your treatment should go through your optometrist or ophthalmologist.
Who is the app for?
Adults managing their own myopia, and parents or guardians tracking treatment for a child. The onboarding screen asks which one applies to you so consent is recorded properly.
Do I need to create an account?
MyopiaMate does not have accounts. All data lives on your device.
What kinds of treatments can I set reminders for?
Four types are supported: atropine drops, orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses, soft contact lenses used for myopic defocus, and myopia-control spectacles like MiYOSMART, Stellest, or MyoCare. You can add the brand and/or concentration as optional additional information on the Statistics screen.
Can I set different reminders for different days of the week?
No. Reminders will fire at the chosen time daily.
What is a "check-in"?
It's the moment where you tell the app whether you actually did the treatment that day or the previous night. You can say yes and add details like the time you took your drops or how long you wore your lenses, or you can say no and pick a reason. The reasons are useful later when you're looking at your patterns.
I forgot to check in yesterday. Can I still record it?
You can submit a check-in as long as the check-in button remains green. Depending on your timing settings, the button will typiclaly remain green until midnight. If you miss a day, do not worry. A missed log only affects logging completion, not your MATE score or your progress map.
Can I edit or delete a check-in I already recorded?
Yes. You can delete a check in from the same day using the 'Delete Data' button on the Dashboard.
How do I log an eye prescription change?
After your eye exam, go to the Statistics screen and add a new prescription entry with the date, diopters, and axial length for each eye. Every entry is dated, so the graph will show your progression over time based on the diopters.
Why does the app ask for axial length?
Axial length, or the length of the eyeball, is a way to measure myopia progression. Many eye care providers record it at each visit.
What does the MATE score mean?
It's an adherence measure that reflects how consistently you're keeping up with treatment, particularly wear time for spectacles. Higher is better. It's meant to give you a quick sense of how the last stretch has gone.
Will the app remind me even when it's closed?
As long as you allow notifications during setup, yes. You'll get a nudge at your treatment time and another at your check-in time, as well as another nudge 30 minutes after your treatment time if you do not check it off.
What do the notifications actually say?
They're intentionally generic. A notification popping up on your lock screen won't announce what medication you're taking or reveal anything specific about your treatment. Anyone glancing at your phone just sees a plain reminder.
I said no to notifications during setup. Can I turn them on later?
Yes. Go to iOS Settings, find Myopia App in the app list, and switch notifications on. The app will start scheduling reminders again the next time you open it.
My reminders stopped showing up.
The most common cause is that notification permission was turned off somewhere along the way. Check iOS Settings first. If permissions are on and reminders still aren't firing, try opening the app, editing the reminder time by a minute, and saving it again to reschedule.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, inside the app's encrypted storage. Nothing is sent to us, nothing is sent to a server, and no third parties receive your health information.
Does the app sync with iCloud?
No. Your data is deliberately excluded from iCloud and from device backups. This is a privacy choice, and it means if you switch phones or restore from a backup, your data won't automatically travel with you. Use the CSV export before you migrate to preserve a log of your data.
Does the app collect analytics or show ads?
Neither. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising libraries, and no tracking of any kind.
How do I delete my data?
The app has several options depending on how much you want to remove. You can delete today's check-in, clear the last three months of records, wipe all health data while keeping your reminder setup, or reset the whole app. Uninstalling the app also deletes everything.
What happens if I uninstall?
All of your data goes with it. There is no cloud copy to restore from, so if you want to keep your treatment data, export a CSV first.
Why does my screenshot or screen recording of MyopiaMate come out black?
MyopiaMate intentionally masks its content when you take a screenshot or screen recording to help protect the treatment and prescription information stored in the App. This is a privacy safeguard, not a bug. If you want to share your data, for example with your eye doctor, please open the Statistics tab and use the CSV export feature.
