WHO  WHY  WHAT

ESTABLISHMENT The Network for Statistical and Causal Inference (NESCI) was founded in 2022 by Lorenzo Casini (IMT), Gustavo Cevolani (IMT), and Alessio Moneta (Sant'Anna) to foster the interaction between economists, psychologists, neuroscientists, data scientists, and philosophers of science.

MISSION NESCI promotes the development of methods for statistical and causal inference across the sciences with focus on experimental and machine learning methods. A non-exhaustive list of topics of interest to NESCI is:

Macroeconomics: VAR; quasi-experimental methods; graphical models; model validation;
Microeconomics: experimental design; nudging and policy;
Psychology: determinants of mental processes; mental categories; biases;
Neuroscience: network mapping of the brain; inference to mental activites from data;
Data Science: application and development of tools for statistical and causal inference;
Philosophy of science: scientific reasoning; scientific concepts.

SPONSORS NESCI is sponsored by the IMT School for Advanced Studies and the Dept. of Excellence for Law, Economics, and Management in the Era of Data Science (L’EMbeDS).

EVENTS NESCI organizes one/two workshops per year, with locations alternating between Pisa and Lucca. All events may be accessed remotely, too.

REACH NESCI welcomes the participation of, and interaction with, researchers from other institutions, too. If you are interested, get in touch with us.
