5th grade Mapleton Elementary 809 Indian Mound Drive

My MoCo Online

Welcome to fifth grade! This school year is definitely going to look and feel differently than any year so far. However, we are still committed to making this the best learning experience possible. I know we are going to have a fabulous year in 5th grade, and I can’t wait to get to know you and your family!

Even though your student will be working at his or her own pace through the Schools PLP Online Academy, I will be available to help your student with mini-lessons as needed. I will be planning daily live help sessions via Zoom. It is NOT required for your student to attend each Zoom Meeting, but students are more than welcome to attend each day.

This time is ever changing and definitely unpredictable. We have all learned that not everything will go as planned, and that is okay! This school year will be remembered for many things, one of them being embracing flexibility. So change is to be expected. However, please know that we at Mapleton are committed to making this school year a success.

A Little About Myself

From as far back as I can remember playing pretend, I wanted to be a teacher. I used to play school with dolls and stuffed animals as well as my Mom and sister. So, it's not surprising that this is my 31st year of teaching! This makes my 7th year teaching at Mapleton; and yes, I still love it! There's just something wonderful about helping others learn and love learning. Teaching has definitely been my calling and purpose in this life.

My family and I live on a farm in Bath County, right where I grew up. We have beef cattle, chickens, and hay. We also enjoy growing and harvesting garden produce, apples, pears, peaches, and blackberries.

And, I don't want to forget to tell you we have four loving and energetic dogs and a pet goat to keep us company.
