Helping You Grow with In-Person and Virual Consultations
I’m based in South West Michigan just outside of Kalamazoo (Zone 6A) and offer personalized garden consultations to help you transform your outdoor space with confidence. Whether you're looking for hands-on guidance in your own backyard or expert advice from the comfort of your home, I’m here to help!
In-Person Services: I travel up to 20 miles from Portage, MI at no additional cost. If you’re located beyond this area, an additional travel fee may apply
Virtual Consultations: Live outside my travel area? No problem! I offer virtual consultations for gardeners in USDA Zones 5-7, providing expert advice tailored to your specific climate and growing conditions.
During our consultation I will help you develop a plan of action to create a garden of your dreams.
I will share a lot of ideas and tips with you to help you make the most of your garden space. We will talk about which plants will grow well in your location and what kind of materials would be best suited for your space. I aim for a collaborative visit to help you feel inspired and confident to transform your garden into a space you truly love.
Before Your Consultation
Identify Your Goals – Think about what you want to achieve. Are you looking for plant recommendations, troubleshooting problems, or planning a full redesign? Having a clear idea of your priorities will help us make the most of our time.
Make a List of Questions – Write down specific concerns or topics you’d like to cover. This could include plant selection, soil health, pest control, garden layout, or seasonal maintenance.
Take Photos (For Virtual Sessions) – If you’ve booked a virtual consultation, having clear photos of your garden, specific problem areas, or plant concerns will allow me to give you the best advice.
Have Basic Information Ready – It’s helpful to know things like how much sun/shade your garden gets, what type of soil you have, and any past issues you've encountered.
During Your Consultation
Be Present & Engaged – This is your time! The more details you provide, the better I can tailor my advice to your unique space and needs.
Ask Questions – Don’t hesitate to clarify anything or ask for additional insights—I want you to walk away feeling confident and inspired!
Discuss Next Steps – I’ll offer practical, actionable steps to help you move forward, whether it’s improving soil health, selecting the right plants, or tackling pest issues.
Preparing for Your Virtual Consult if you are doing a Video Tour of Your Space:
If you’re opting for a live video tour of your garden during our virtual consultation, a little preparation can help ensure a smooth, uninterrupted experience so we can make the most of our time together.
Steps to Prepare for a Video Tour:
Check Your Wi-Fi Signal Outdoors – Walk through your garden with your phone or tablet before our session to test your connection. If certain areas have weak Wi-Fi, consider moving closer to your router, using a Wi-Fi extender, or switching to cellular data if needed.
Charge Your Device – A garden tour can use a lot of battery, so make sure your phone or tablet is fully charged before our session.
Choose the Right Time of Day – Good lighting helps me see your garden better. Try to schedule your consultation when there’s enough natural light but not harsh midday sun that might wash out the video.
Minimize Background Noise – Wind, traffic, or other outdoor noises can make it hard for us to communicate. Using headphones with a built-in microphone can help improve sound quality.
Plan Your Tour Route – Think about the key areas you’d like to show me. Walking through your garden in an organized way will help maximize our time.
Have Your Questions Ready – If you have specific concerns (pest issues, plant health, design ideas, etc.), we’ll be able to focus on them more efficiently if you have them listed in advance.
