Microlearning Project

To build up my portfolio and complete the tasks assigned by the instructors on a weekly basis, I had to become familiar with different tools. More in detail, I chose Google sites to create my portfolio "shell", Canva and Genial.ly for maps and infographics, to make my newly acquired knowledge more visual and shareable.

The tool I have chosen to focus on in my final project is Genial.ly as I had never used it before this module started so the analysis of my learning strategies is likely to be fairer and task-appropriate, being myself a new user.

Experiential learning was my starting point as I have always been fond of education-related tech tools, so I started by creating the infographic on Constructivism with no previous knowledge of Genial.ly. More in detail, I created that animated infographic making use of the "buttons" available and helped by the icons available trying to deduce their function before clicking on them . I am indeed very visual as far as learning is concerned.

As the creative process went on, some Behaviorism was required in the shape of trial and error as Thorndike would have defined it and more specifically discarding wrong "responses" when I clicked on inappropriate buttons or removed by chance some appropriate visual ( luckily everything was automatically saved) . So some drilling , here is Behaviorism again, before choosing the right icon/ button was requested and helped me become faster and more effective during the making of. This mainly happened when I had to deal with the selection of images and visuals as it took me a while to understand the difference between "images" also including cutouts and " resources" where "scenes and illustrations" were stored instead.

Connectivism came to my rescue when I decided to create my final infographic comparing the studied learning thories. To add proper links and tooltips also customising the animations of the final product , I looked for a tutorial and selected the shortest available which was only focused on "adding links to infographics in Genial.ly" so I also applied microlearning ( i. e . undertaking the quickest route to fill the knowledge gap I was coping by means of googling and using a short and focused video).

Andragogy was also part of my learning process as I made use of my knowledge of similar tools I was already familiar with ( i. e. Canva) as a resource for learning this new one (i. e. starting from a template and customise it to build up my onw infographic) .

The most remarkable a-ha moment took place when I realised I could use a "weekly timetable" template already available on Genial.ly and free of charge to make my " comparinng learning theory " assignment more effective. It was a sort of epiphany as the very layout of that template helped me recollect, select and simplify what I had been studying in the previous weeks . Not to mention the sense of achievement I felt when I saw the final result which is also available clicking on the button below
