The knuckle, wrist, or ankle bones of goats, sheep, and other animals have been used in games of five stones. Such objects have been found in prehistoric caves in Kiev, Ukraine, and pictures of the game are depicted on jars from ancient Greece.
Five stones is also known by a variety of other names, including Jackstones, Chuckstones, Dibs, Dabs, Otadama, Tally, and Knucklebones. Jacks is a variant of fives stones in which a ball is used. In Malaysia, the game is known as Batu Seremban.
Instead of stones, the game can be played using five small triangular or pyramid-shaped cloth bags which are filled with either sand, rice or dried beans. It is a good gauge of one’s dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Setup

Sit on the floor with your opponent. You need 5 small stones or beanbags.
Level 1 (Serah - Toss and Pick)

Scatter all 5 stones loosely on the ground in front of you.
Toss one stone straight up into the air.
While it is in the air, quickly pick up one stone from the ground with the same hand, and then catch the tossed stone before it hits the floor.
Repeat this until you have picked up all 4 stones individually one by one.
Level 2 (Pick Two)

Scatter the stones again. Toss one stone in the air.
This time, pick up two stones at the same time from the ground before catching the falling stone.
Repeat to get the remaining two stones.
Level 3 (Pick Three, Then One)

Scatter the stones. Toss one stone in the air.
Pick up three stones at once, catch the falling stone, toss the main stone again, and then pick up the last remaining one.
Level 4 (Buang - Toss and Swap)

Scatter the stones. Toss one stone in the air.
Pick up all 4 stones from the ground, but before catching the falling stone, you must quickly drop one stone back onto the floor and catch the falling one. Now you should hold 3 stones in your hand.
Toss the single stone again and pick up the remaining 4 stones all at once to finish.
Level 5 (Timbang - Weighing)

Toss one stone in the air. Pick up all 4 stones from the ground.
Place the 4 stones in the palm of your hand, toss them up slightly, and try to catch as many as you can on the back of your hand.
Toss the caught stones from the back of your hand back into the air and catch them in your palm. The number you successfully catch becomes your final score!

Players take turns completing the levels. If you fail to catch the tossed stone or drop a stone while picking others up, your turn ends and it passes to the next player. The player who completes all levels first wins.
